One Life 2*

One Life 2*

None

One Life is a video game developed by Sanctum in which you only have one life. When you die, it’s game over; permanently. When you die, a program is activated in the downloaded game folder prohibiting your CPU from ever installing the game again. You only got one chance at One Life. Up until now, that is.

A third-party developer has found a way to resurrect your character in One Life. Set to coincide with Easter, the game is set to spring to life once more. Entitled One Life 2, your character will miraculously rise from the dead on Easter morning, and it’s game on once again. You’ll begin by hunting for Easter eggs to help power you up after a lengthy respite from life. But before this all takes place, there’s some work to be done.

To further instill the sense of danger and loss from the original game, the developers are adding another psychological twist to One Life 2: investment. Players must begin a 24-hour vigil at the scene of their death on Good Friday. During this time they must recite incantations, prayers, and perform various rituals, not to mention keeping enemies at bay. Players can start their Good Friday resurrection process at any time, but must continue for an uninterrupted 24-hour period.

“With such a huge time investment, players are going to experience a deeper thrill than the original game,” says third-party developer Jude Preast. “After you’ve spent an entire sleepless night recreating and resurrecting your character, then you realize he’s still only got one life throughout the entire game. It’s not unlike giving birth. There are plenty of surprises in this version. You may last a lot longer depending on what Easter eggs you find upon your resurrection. Some of these will give you extraordinary powers and weapons to assist in keeping you alive longer.”

Preast maintains there is no religious connotation to the game. Despite the tie-in with Easter, he says his game is merely exploiting the concept; any other similarities are purely coincidental. He hopes his game will help further erode and transcend the true meaning of Easter.

“The Easter Bunny has been the primary icon of Easter for decades, but no one has been able to overtake him in popularity,” Preast adds. “With One Life 2, we are incorporating Easter eggs along with a resurrection, culminating in a game that, if played well, could last a lifetime. We’re hoping that in the future, when people think of Easter, they’ll think of One Life 2 first.”
