“Only On PSN” Gets A PS2 Jumpstart

None

Did you buy a launch PlayStation 3? If not, it’s very likely that the black box in your media center lacks backwards compatibility with its most recent ancestor, the seminal PlayStation 2. Though recent purchasers of the PS3 have been without its progenitor’s extensive and varied library, Sony is looking to offer its customers an olive branch of sorts. As part of its “Only On PSN” initiative, which provides special offers and extra marketing for titles exclusive to the PlayStation Network, Sony is adding some PlayStation 2 games to the service.

Billed as “rare classics,” the list includes God Hand (which gamers might remember crowned our “Top 10 Games You Never Played” list ), GrimGrimoire, Maximo: Ghosts to Glory, Odin Sphere and Ring of Red. It’s excellent to see some of these underappreciated, decidedly core-gamer titles getting some new life through Sony’s digital service and, with discounts promised for PlayStation Plus subscribers, these games (particularly God Hand, Maximo and Odin Sphere) deserve your attention.
