Ouya, the proposed $99, hacker-friendly, Android-based console project , has seen its Kickstarter receive over $3.1 million as of this writing, tripling its original goal of $950,000. Almost 25,000 backers have given the console their support, and there are still 28 days left to fund the project. Speaking at the MobileBeat conference in San Francisco today, Ouya designer Yves Behar reaffirmed his belief that Ouya is poised to disrupt the gaming console status quo. “The gaming community […] wants to be engaged, wants something new, wants it to be open,” Behar told The Verge. “There’s lots of programmers, hackers, [and] game developers that don’t want to pay the huge fees that it takes to get a developer kit [for a major gaming console].”
