Are you sick of having to choose between three major consoles each new gaming generation? Well now you have to choose between four. Ouya, an independent console, is joining the console race. This new console has a custom-built Android-based operating system that is open to any developer looking to publish on their platform. The console has some rules, though. For example, every game must have a free portion of some sort, which means we’re likely to see mostly free-to-play/microtransaction-style games. In addition, the console can support any other Android app as well. It comes bundled with TwitchTV, for people who are looking for an HD stream box. ![]()
Now, what will interest people the most is the console creator’s philosophy on rooting: You can root an Ouya without voiding your warranty! That means you can fiddle with it as much as you want, making the perfect Droid box without any software constraints. This is the first time any console has been so open and accepting of the modding and hacking community. By Angelo M. D’Argenio |
