Blizzard always seems to do everything they can to make their player’s experience the best one. Recently, we mentioned that they’re joining with Twitch Prime to offer free Loot Boxes to their fans. Now there’s even better news for the recipients of said Loot Boxes. Two of Blizzard’s biggest titles just announced that they have made some changes to how their loot systems work so players will not run as much of a risk of duplicates.
The two games in question are Overwatch and Hearthstone . In Overwatch, duplicates are a regular thing and they actually work as a way to attain currency within the game. But there’s still nothing more frustrating than opening up a box, ramping up excitement for something new, and then seeing familiar items left and right. To balance out these two things, the Overwatch team is lessening the amount of duplicates you’ll receive, but they’re raising the amount of credits in each box. Essentially, the raise in credits should balance out to the same (if not more) that you would get from duplicate items. Obviously if you get a lot of loot boxes, you’ll probably still run into doubles because you have so many items. But the changes to the system should help new and middle-level loot receivers.
Hearthstone has made some similar changes to their card packs. The game director actually said that every time you open a legendary card, it should be one you don’t already have. There’s also been a change to chance with legendary cards that players have crafted using Dust. If you make a legendary card with Dust, you’ll have a lesser chance of getting it in a future booster pack. This way it won’t feel as much like that Dust expense was for nothing. Another big change to Hearthstone chance is a guarantee that your first 10 packs of a new set will include a legendary.
We’re liking these changes, how about you?
