Persona 4 Animation Coming Stateside

Persona 4 Animation Coming Stateside

None

Normally, we probably wouldn’t report on an anime release. In recent years, localization practices have improved to the point where even niche properties are getting official attention. That said, the overlap between anime fans and JRPG-players is pretty broad, so when a game as impressive and story-centric as Persona 4 gets an animation, those gamers will likely stand up and take notice.

Good thing, then, that Sentai Filmworks is bringing the series stateside. Weighing in at a full season’s worth of 25-episodes, the series will begin broadcast in Japan on October 6, Sentai Filmworks working on a digitally distributing the episodes soon after their broadcast. DVD and Blu-Ray releases are planned for 2012, but no solid date has been set as of yet.

Persona 4 the Animation closely follows the story of the game and is directed by Seiji Kishi, who previously headed up an animation based on the MMORPG Ragnarok Online, so his experience adapting gaming properties to anime is beyond question. Persona 4 was one of the greatest RPGs on the PlayStation 2, drawing immense critical acclaim and many RPG of the year nominations. It has, thus far, spawned this animation and a fighting game from Arc System Works, as well as an enhanced port of the game itself on the PlayStation Vita.
