Persona 4 Golden Pushing Vita Sales In Japan

Persona 4 Golden Pushing Vita Sales In Japan

None

Persona 4 Golden, the brand new Vita remake of classic Atlus PS2 RPG Persona 4, has been an absolute boon to the PlayStation Vita in Japan.

Though the sales for Sony’s powerful little handheld have been quite depressing in the Land of the Rising Sun, the release of Persona 4 Golden has more than doubled the Vita’s weekly sales. Perhaps opening up the Vita to the Japanese audience, Persona 4 was the killer app that the RPG-craving masses of Japan needed. The question now is, will Sony be able to continue?

Though the release of Persona 4 Golden gave the Vita a huge bump, it didn’t quite allow the Vita to overtake the Nintendo 3DS. The Vita still sold only half as many units as the 3DS did in the same period of time last week. In this generation, both handhelds are considered to be struggling, but any small bit helps.

The question now is, what sort of killer app will produce the same effect in America? For me, it’s still Persona 4 Golden, but I’m more of a fan of JRPGs than most. Perhaps Call of Duty: Black Ops: Declassified will give the Vita the bump it has been looking for.
