Vita Pushing Its Way Up Japanese Sales Charts

Vita Pushing Its Way Up Japanese Sales Charts

None

The original sales numbers for the PlayStation Vita in Japan were honestly a little depressing. Recently, however, it seems like the handheld is making a bit of a comeback.

For the past two weeks Vita games have been showing up on Media Create’s top 20 game software sales list. Last week, Tales of Innocence-R managed to grab the number three spot on the chart. This week it comes in at number 14. PS Vita games are notorious for slipping off the charts after a week, and so this title’s staying power is a good sign for the livelihood of the Vita. Another title has managed to push its way up the charts this week: Ragnarok Odyssey by GameArts and GunHo. Let’s see if even more titles manage to make it on the list next week.

Additionally, the Vita finally reversed the trend of being outsold by the PSP in Japan last week. This week, the Vita is at it again, selling 17,141 units compared to the PSP’s 15,847 units. It certainly doesn’t compare to the 3DS’ 84,789 unit mark, but it’s a start.

Sony platforms are notorious for starting slow and then hitting a sales boom after a couple killer apps fill the console library. If the pattern continues, the PS Vita will make a slow steady climb to the top of the charts.
