Peter Moore, the Vice President of Microsoft’s Interactive Entertainment Business division, has announced his resignation from Microsoft.  In a surprise move, Moore has accepted a position as the president of EA, allowing him to return to the San Francisco Bay area with his family.

Moore had the following to say about the transition.  ” The people at EA SPORTS have created one of the strongest brands in the entertainment industry and John Riccitiello is building an organization which will extend the company’s leadership to new platforms and new audiences all over the world. I couldn’t be more excited about joining EA and moving my family back to the San Francisco Bay Area.”

As incentive for the switch, EA offered Moore, who is known for using tattoos of popular games during his E3 presentations, a $1.5 million sign on bonus in addition to a salary of $550,000.

Ironically, the person who will replace Moore at Microsoft, Don Mattrick, is the former president of Electronic Arts.

Regarding the switch, Robbie Bach president of Microsoft’s  Entertainment and Devices Division, said “While Peter will certainly be missed, we are delighted to have one of the industry’s most talented and passionate veterans on board to lead the business. Don is well-known and respected throughout the industry for his deep knowledge, technical expertise and management savvy. Under Don’s leadership, the games team is looking forward to embarking on our biggest holiday ever, with a wide-ranging roster of some of the most highly anticipated titles.”
