Lionsgate Pushing into Game Industry

Lionsgate Pushing into Game Industry

In this day and age of studio closures and layoffs, it’s strange to hear of a company that is pushing into the video game world. However, this is exactly what film and TV production company Lionsgate is doing. Their move into the video game world was announced today, introducing a new division of the company, called Interactive Ventures and Games.

No projects have been announced just yet, and it’s unclear as to whether or not the studio will have its own internal development team. However, they did mention investing in existing games, and selling the rights to Lionsgate properties in order to let them be sold in the video game world. Personally, I wouldn’t mind seeing a Mad Men Telltale game, or a Hunger Games survival action game.

Peter Levin will be heading up this new division. He is better known for founding Nerdist industries, and acting as a consultant for Agry Birds .

“Peter is a perfect fit for our entrepreneurial culture, and he is ideally qualified to lead the continued growth of our content business into the video game space and other interactive digital ventures,” said Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer. “Gaming has become one of the most explosive growth areas of the content business, and Peter’s mandate will be to build a portfolio of premium digital properties as we expand our leadership in films and television programming into digital content as well.”
