Pikmin 3 Won’t Have Online Multiplayer

Pikmin 3 Won’t Have Online Multiplayer

None

Shigeru Miyamoto has confirmed that Pikmin 3 will not feature online multiplayer when it launches on the Wii U, although it will still have local cooperative play.

Speaking to IGN, Miyamoto said that the successes and failures of Mario Kart 7’s online component caused him to be wary of possible syncing and connection issues if he were to include the service in the upcoming RTS.

“So in the case of Mario Kart, we did have online multiplayer, and that’s something that… You have to be very careful that you don’t drop frames as you’re trying to sync up with other players over what could be a very great physical distance, over the internet,” he said.

“But in the situation of Pikmin, for example, since you would have lots of individual, small creatures, the Pikmin, whose every movement and location is going to be really important in the game, it would be very difficult to sync up over an Internet connection.”

Nevertheless, Miyamoto remains confident that Pikmin 3 will bring plenty of fun to players through its single-player and local co-op modes. Considering how long fans have had to wait for the third entry in the beloved franchise, I think people will be happy just to play the game in the first place.
