Watch Dogs 2 releases in stores nationwide tomorrow, but some lucky players already have their hands on the game. Among them is a NeoGAF user by the name of FlammableAce, who appears to have uncovered a mysterious teaser trailer by way of “hacking” the virtual Ubisoft HQ within the game’s world.
The user reported completing an unmarked side mission that he gained access to after happening upon an in-game Ubisoft employee. This led him to UbiHQ, where he was able to use the protagonist’s hacking abilities to uncover the trailer in question. It’s a brief montage depicting several space stations or satellites, followed by a ship of some kind approaching a red planet’s atmosphere. A western, Cowboy Bebop -style tune plays in the background all the while.
At this point, there isn’t enough information to reach any conclusions about the footage. Is it a teaser for a new game, or is it just a fun Easter egg? Could it be the beginning of an ARG that Ubisoft wanted the players to discover? For now, all we can do it keep our eyes out for more clues. If the video’s fake watermark is any indication, we’ll know more by next E3 at the latest.
