Project AM2R Releases a Prettier Metroid II

The time has come. Samus is being celebrated in a manner she deserves. The fan-made AM2R remake project, which turns the Game Boy’s Metroid II into something more gorgeous and intricate, has been released. It’s a big deal with a target on its back, so hurry up and download it while you can.

AM2R basically takes Metroid II and makes it more like Metroid: Zero Mission . That’s the Game Boy Advance game. It’s only playable on Windows PCs, which makes sense given what’s done. There are all new sprites, with redrawn enemies and Metroids. The map has been updated, with new locations added. There are minibosses, with old enemies getting new AI to make them more formidable and interesting. The beam system stacks, gameplay has been tweaked, and there’s a log in case you come back after not playing for a while and want to know what you should be doing. Also, there’s a remastered soundtrack. In short? This is an amazing fan-made remaster.

Which means that there’s a chance Nintendo could inflict a cease & desist order and take it down at any moment. Already, things look grim. The Metroid Database posted on Twitter to say a DMCA takedown notice was filed, keeping them from hosting AM2R , and they’re looking to make sure it’s authentic . This project was an amazing undertaking, so do your best to try it before it’s gone forever.
