PS Vita Losing First Party Support

PS Vita Losing First Party Support

Sony stated in a recent interview with Japanese video game website, 4gamer, that its handheld, the PS Vita, won’t be seeing any more first party titles. At least, not for a while.

This is a result of third party developers starting to embrace the platform. The demographic of the handheld is also changing towards a younger one, with games like Minecraft: PS Vita Edition seeing a rise of prominence on the platform. Sony sees this as an opportunity to switch its focus to the PS4.

The PS Vita is an impressive piece of hardware, but sees very little support due to a lack of interest in its original demographic. It would be nice to see Sony somehow salvage the handheld. If it can pull out of a nose dive, it could regain the momentum it needs to establish itself as a viable option for more developers. That is, of course, mostly up to the consumers at this point.

Sony went on to state that the PS Vita version of the first party produced music festival management game, BigFest , is still on the way. BigFest will be the last of the first party games that Sony has planned, at this point.
