PS3 firmware update v2.43 is now available for download, but it is only necessary for Japanese consumers. However, “if you manually initiate a firmware update by clicking on “System Update” under the XMB’s Settings icon, the v2.43 update will be available, regardless of where you are located.” Unfortunately, according to Al De Leon, PR Manager at SCEA, the update provides consumers with no new functionality. However, in a possibly related story, a few consumers in the US with Japanese accounts have been able to download Life with PlayStation. Apparently, Life with PlayStation, the web-based program that lets you check the weather, stay up to date with the latest news, and participate with the PlayStation community at large, was available for download for a few lucky souls but has since been taken down from the servers, as the application has yet to be officially released for the U.S.
