Mirai Ninja, also known as Future Ninja, is a scrolling beat-’em-up arcade game. It was developed by Namco, the studio that gave us Pac-Man, Tekken, and Ridge Racer. The game was released in November of 1988 and was exclusive to Japan. As part of the Arcade Archives series, the game is available for the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch.
Mirai Ninja Premise
The platformer game follows a similar storyline to the movie Mirai Ninja: Keigumo Kinin Gaiden (Future Ninja: Stealth Joy Cloud Device Side Story). There is a war between humans and cyborgs. And now the cyborg legion needs a final sacrifice to summon their demonic overlord from another dimension. They kidnap Headstrong Princess Saki from the royal family. Now the cyber-ninja must defect from the enemy and save the day.

Mirai Ninja Main Character
Not much is known about the protagonist except he was a man before his body and soul were stolen from him. They were used as part of a demon’s castle. What’s left of him has become the cyber-ninja Shiranui. Now he must go rogue and save the princess.
Shiranui fights by throwing shurikens at long range and slashing with his sword at close range. In the film, he is the long-lost brother of a young resistance member.
Mirai Ninja Series
While Mirai Ninja is a standalone game, it has a live-action film adaptation. It might even beat Super Mario Bros. for the title of the first live-action video game movie. Mirai Ninja: Keigumo Kinin Gaiden came five years before the original Super Mario Bros. film. It was even released worldwide. The title is Warlord in Canada, Robo Ninja in the UK, and Cyber Ninja in the USA.
