R4 Cards Now Illegal in the U.K.

None

When R4 Cards are outlawed, only outlaws will have R4 cards. This is the situation in the U.K. following a recent ruling by a British high court judge. Develop reports that this ruling makes importing, advertising, and selling R4 cards for the DS illegal in the U.K. Unfortunately, since the ruling also states that it is illegal to circumvent Nintendo’s security systems to play content on the system, playing homebrew games is also now a crime.

While the homebrew aspect of this ruling is unfortunate, it is a major victory for Nintendo, who claims that over 100,000 game copying devices have been seized in the U.K. since 2009. The company states “Nintendo initiates these actions not only on its own behalf, but also on behalf of over 1,400 video game-development companies that depend on legitimate sales of games for their survival”. While this is undoubtedly true, I can’t help but to feel bad for the U.K.’s homebrew community.
