Ratchet & Clank is an utter delight. Almost everything you hear about the game that you might be tempted to dismiss as overly enthusiastic hyperbole is actually true. It does feel like playing through a Pixar movie. The characters are brimming with charm. It is the best looking PS4 game to date. If you’ve been looking for a great 3D platformer or a new action-adventure game I think Ratchet & Clank will really surprise you, even if you don’t consider yourself a fan of the series; and for $40 it’s an easy sell.
And sell it has! For the first time in series history a Ratchet & Clank game has debuted as a chart topper. It currently sits at the number one spot of the UK sales chart, beating out Dark Souls III (an amazing feat). Comparatively, Ratchet & Clank tripled the week-one sales of its predecessor A Crack in Time. This is welcome news: the 3D platformer genre is still alive and well. Now if we could just get a Crash Bandicoot that looks or plays as well as this does, I’ll call it a full-blown revival.
