Redbox Courting Gamers Today

Redbox Courting Gamers Today

None

Would you pay two dollars for a day with a game of your choice? Redbox, purveyor of dollar-a-day DVD rentals, is adding a new form of entertainment to their iconic red kiosks. Starting today, Redbox units will offer Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii titles at that two dollar price-point, double that of their DVD movies.

While some Redbox units have already offered games in the past (I personally remember renting Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks from one), the practice appears to be expanding. Now, the focus on games is company-wide.

With traditional brick-and-mortar rental stores losing business and shutting down locations in the wake of popular rent-by-mail services like GameFly, Redbox is attempting to provide an alternative means of instant gratification renting. This is great for those who might not feel ready to commit to a monthly contract with GameFly.
