Remothered: Tormented Fathers is a 2018 survival horror game developed by Stormind Games and published by Darril Arts. The game is essentially the passion project of Chris Darril, who served as its creator, writer, and director. It was initially a PC exclusive, but would eventually come to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
For a first entry into a new franchise, Remothered: Tormented Fathers performed decently with critics. The game holds a score of 77 on Metacritic, meaning it’s a solid title, with clear room for improvement. With a sequel to the game already released with a 39 on Metacritic, it unfortunately seems that some of the wrong lessons may have been taken from Remothered: Tormented Fathers.
Remothered: Tormented Fathers Premise
In Remothered: Tormented Fathers, survival is the name of the game. You enter the Felton mansion as Rosemary Reed, who soon discovers that not all is as it seems. Several of the individuals you have come to investigate are now hunting you down, and you must use your wits to escape.
Throughout the mansion, you must complete several different puzzles to progress. The entire time, you’re being hunted, so you must outsmart your stalkers and avoid detection from them. Most of the horror elements in Remothered: Tormented Fathers come from the tension the game creates, as opposed to more traditional jumpscares. If you are found and harmed by the stalkers, there is no health bar to indicate how much damage you can take. Instead, this is presented visually via Rosemary, creating a more immersive gameplay experience.
However, nothing works if you aren’t fully invested in the story. That’s why Remothered: Tormented Fathers has a ton of lore littered around the mansion for you to discover, giving you the full picture of what has actually happened here. This turns the game into part survival, part horror, and part investigation. It’s a great blend of genres that keeps you on your toes throughout.
Remothered: Tormented Fathers Main Characters
The characters in Remothered: Tormented Fathers are not as they seem. Mystery is a huge part of the experience, with their true natures revealing themself throughout the game. Everyone has a motive of their own, and it’s up to you to figure out what is actually happening.
Here’s the lowdown on a few characters in Remothered: Tormented Fathers you need to know about before playing for the first time:
- Rosemary Reed: Rosemary is the main protagonist of the game. She heads to the Felton villa to investigate the disappearance of Celeste Felton, where she finds more than she bargained for.
- Richard Felton / Jennifer: Born Jennifer, Richard Felton is one of the stalkers in the game. Suffering from an incurable disease, Richard looks to forget his past, and doesn’t appreciate it being brought up to him.
- Gloria Ashmann: Gloria is the main antagonist of Remothered: Tormented Fathers. She works as a nurse for Richard, but has a sinister dark side that reveals itself over the course of the game.
Remothered: Tormented Fathers Titles in the Series
The Remothered series is still in its relative infancy. While Tormented Fathers was released in 2018, it was only two years before a sequel was released in the form of Broken Porcelain. Poor reviews for the sequel meant that a planned third release in a trilogy was canceled by Stormind Games, with no current plans for revival. It’s unknown if this was due to poor sales or critical reception of Remothered: Broken Porcelain, but it doesn’t look like we’ll be seeing the third title any time soon.
For now, consider the Remothered series on ice.
