There’s certainly been a whirl wind of flip-flopping and misinformation over the last 24 hours from our friend Mr. Robert Downey Jr.
First we heard news that, on Ellen DeGeneres’ talks show, Downey had confirmed (in so many words) he would likely be returning to his role as Iron Man in a fourth solo film (which would fall somewhere between Age of Ultron and Avengers 3 ).
However, after this little tidbit went live on the internet, the actor immediately shifted into full-on damage control mode. Just a few short hours later, here is what Downey said to David Letterman on The Late Show : “There’s no plans for an Iron Man 4 . There’s no script for Iron Man 4 , but they do have a plan and I think they’re gonna announce it. You know, Marvel’s very secretive about it…just between us, no, but I’m gonna do other stuff with Marvel. I’m still going to be involved with Marvel and there’s gonna be plenty of fun stuff to happen.”
A very cryptic answer indeed. So is that yes to future appearances as Iron Man in cross-over projects but no to a new stand-alone film? Do they plan to spin the character off into something else, or perhaps allow Downey to direct a separate Marvel series?
