Actress Karen Gillan, who appears on the show Doctor Who , will take on the role of Nebula in the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy . Now, she reveals a little about the physicality we’ll see from her character.
With characters like Black Widow from Avengers or even Betsy Ross in 1940’s Captain America , females in Marvel films have always been able to hold their own during the action. In a recent interview, Gillian gave a bit of info regarding what it was like onset getting the choreography of the “girl battles” to look just right. “…there’s a big girlie fight sequence, but it’s not that girlie. They made sure there weren’t any nice pirouettes or anything like that….Zoe is really experienced in the physical stuff, she was a ballerina. She’s really amazing at all of that stuff. She barely required any rehearsal, she was like, ‘I can do this.” She says.
While the training is a huge part of the physical conditioning, Gillian also reveals there’s a psychological element to how the fight unfolds between the two (with it taking months to rehearse). “I required two months of rehearsals every day that I wasn’t shooting, because I looked like spaghetti when I started….This is the integral one for my character, because it’s not just a physical battle. Their relationship goes very deep, and there’s a huge history between them. So there’s a lot more to it than just the physical.” She touts.
