Assassin’s Creed III represents a turning point in the Assassin’s Creed franchise. The third game was the last appearance of the series’s first protagonist, Desmond Miles. The 2012 open-world action-adventure game developed by Ubisoft was the end of a saga, but the story of Assassin’s Creed III wasn’t over yet.
In 2013, Ubisoft released a three-part DLC expansion called Assassin’s Creed III: The Tyranny of King Washington. In this DLC, players explore an alternate timeline of America’s founding. Players must fight against the nightmarish version of America and figure out how to restore the timeline. Assassin’s Creed III: The Tyranny of King Washington is a unique DLC that presents the typical Assassin’s Creed story in a new light.
The Tyranny of King Washington Premise

After the events of Assassin’s Creed III, President George Washington has been plagued by nightmares caused by the Apple of Eden. When the protagonist, Connor, attempts to take the Apple, both he and Washington are transported to an alternate reality.
In this new reality, Washington has become the Tyrannical King of the United States, and Connor never became an Assassin. Now, Connor must liberate America and defeat Washington before he’s able to spread his evil around the world.
The Tyranny of King Washington Main Character

Just like in Assassin’s Creed III, players will assume the role of Ratonhnaké:ton / Connor. Instead of using the skills of a trained Assassin, Connor now uses the mystical powers themed after his Mohawk cultural heritage. In each installment, Connor gains a new power. The “Power of the Wolf” allows him to turn invisible, the “Power of the Eagle” allows him to fly, and the “Power of the Bear” allows him to create powerful shockwaves.
The Tyranny of King Washington took Assassin’s Creed in a brand new direction. Instead of being a historical sci-fi game, it was now a magical power fantasy. This DLC also let Connor embrace more of his Mohawk roots and explore what his life would have been like if he never become an Assassin like his father.
