After five appearances as millionaire genius Tony Stark (counting the upcoming Age of Ultron that is), it was believed that actor Robert Downey Jr. would be hanging up his iron-plated boots for good.
However, during a recent interview, Downey provided the smallest shred of hope that fans may see him return in Iron Man 4 . When asked about a future role in the iconic franchise, he states “I’m sure we’ll ride that thing. You’ve got to surf that all the way in to shore. I think I was at the forefront of something that was coming into being, and I think it has carried me as much as I have informed it. That’s the healthy way to look at it. It’s so easy to become inflated by the successes, but what they really are are long, strong trends. It’s just another wave.”
While I realize that statement sounds a bit like the kind of gobbledygook artistic types tend to spew out from time to time, it does essentially amount to the same thing. It appears if the planets align, it’s very likely we’ll see another Iron Man starring the A-Lister at some point. If I were a bettin’ man, I’d say the safe money is on a fourth film beginning production soon after the Avengers sequel wraps.
Speaking of which, Avengers: Age of Ultron is currently filming and is set to hit theaters on May 1 st , 2015.
