Rockstar Pulling out All the Marketing Stops for Launch of Red Dead Redemption

None

Red Dead Redemption has been in development for longer than a lot of gamers have been holding a controller.

Necessarily, Rockstar Games has spent a fortune on its development. Thankfully, it looks like the final product, which is set to launch on May 18, is going to be outstanding. In fact, Rockstar Games may be onto another blockbuster franchise.

As such, a massive, worldwide promotional campaign is gearing up. According to an enlightening MCVUK.com interview with Rockstar Games’ GM Neil Stephen, this is Rockstar’s “most ambitious game to date.”

Mr. Stephen highlighted that “We [Rockstar] are spending a larger proportion of our TV budget pre-launch than we ever have before to ensure Red Dead Redemption is established as a massive triple-A title.”

He then continued by stating, “For the first time as a company, we will be running an on-screen cinema advertising campaign. We think the cinematic nature of the game makes it a perfect fit for cinema and we will be executing a nationwide ad campaign targeting the audiences of Robin Hood, Iron Man 2 and Prince of Persia.”

It sounds like Rockstar knows what their demographic is (I’ll likely see all three of those movies), and is going to reward them with free demo and swag content through, not only the usual website and digital download services, but also in-cinema movie posters that will allow interested parties to download the goodies via Bluetooth apparatuses.

Finally, Neil Stephen sees Red Dead Redemption “as a possible game of the year contender,” adding that the company is “aiming high” in terms of sales projections, stating, unequivocally, “we think is our next blockbuster gaming franchise.”

We’ll have to wait and see when we get the final product in our hands, but mixing a stylized version of the West with proven gaming mechanics from the GTA franchise seems like we could be in for a treat.
