Romero’s Studio Kickstarting Old School RPG

Romero’s Studio Kickstarting Old School RPG

It would appear that everything old is new again. Kickstarter has provided something of a renaissance for 90s developers, many of the best and most popular finding success in propagating their fan-favorite franchises, or entirely new projects, through the crowd-funding service. From Tim Schafer to Brian Fargo, Obsidian to Charles Cecil, these projects have drawn tremendous attention and have been met with untold gusto by the fans.

Now, John Romero’s Loot Drop is making their Kickstarter debut with an as-of-yet untitled “Old School RPG.” The folks most directly behind it, Brenda Brathwaite and Tom Hall, were involved in the construction of the Wizardry series as well as the JRPG-inspired Anachronox, respectively.

Perhaps the most interesting element of this Kickstarter, though, isn’t the people involved or the premise of the game they’re looking to make, but one of the stretch goals. Should they hit the $1.9 million mark, nearly doubling their $1 million core goal, they will create two games instead, one each by Brenda Brathwaite and Tom Hall. The two will intersect, as well, allowing you to import your crew from one into the other, providing a distinct beginning in each.

Get to pledging, folks.
