Rumor: New Version of Xbox Due Out in Next 18 Months

None

According to a new job advertisement over at Microsoft, a new version of the Xbox is due. The line reads, “Over the next eighteen months, Microsoft will release new versions of all of our most significant products including Windows (Client, Server, Phone and Azure), Office, and Xbox, along with completely new offerings like Microsoft Surface.” It’s a pretty generic statement, most likely meant to cover all of Microsoft’s bases in the job posting, but it may mean something interesting for the future of Microsoft’s console.

Most likely, we won’t be seeing another Xbox Slim release. Considering that eighteen months from now puts us at February 2014, it’s likely Microsoft is talking about whatever console will succeed the Xbox 360. This also means that if the posting is accurate, we are likely to see a showing of this new console at next year’s E3, as it will take place mere months before the console’s release.

Microsoft has refused to comment on the job posting and generally doesn’t comment on their own job ads as policy. For now, this is strictly a rumor. Still, it’s enough to get excited about, considering the Wii U is almost here. The next generation of consoles is about to begin.
