The latest juicy rumor from Let’s Play Video Games (they’re on a roll lately) suggests that the NX may be following in the PS4’s footsteps. According to the report, sources are indicating the presence of a social or “share” button on the NX controller. The button would allow for quick streaming and uploading images to various social platforms including, of course, Miiverse. The content could also be captured and stored on an external storage device.
This would be a very welcome addition indeed. Currently if you want to share something to Miiverse, whether playing on the 3DS or Wii U, you have to navigate a series of menus and programs. You’re guaranteed to be away from your game for a couple of minutes as you load up the Miiverse application and wait for everything to post. A share button would allow Nintendo’s community to play and share together more easily, which is what we’ve been requesting for a long time.
LPVG also reported that the NX dev kit features a split d-pad. This would also be a pretty big deviation from the norm for Nintendo, which has always included excellent, solid one-piece d-pads on its devices. This is all based on the dev kit, so of course all of this is subject to change when the NX is revealed.
