RUMOR: Xbox One Voice Commands Were Scripted

Did you watch the Xbox One reveal? Among their talk of television features, a refined controller, and sports partnerships, Microsoft mentioned one of the most intriguing quality-of-life features of the new console: seamless switching between content, and even multitasking, by way of voice commands. Yusuf Mehdi demonstrated these up on stage, with intuitive gestures and casual voice commands to which the console reacted immediately.

IGN is suspicious, though, claiming that anytime a voice command is mentioned, Yusuf’s left hand enters his pocket. They speculate that this is to trigger the next action in a de fact slideshow.

Given that this was a major console reveal, with a lot riding on it, smoke and mirrors like this may have been used to ensure the production went off without a hitch, but when the entire appeal of your device is how reactive and prompt it is, lacking the confidence necessary to put it to the test and trust it to do as well for you as consumers would expect kind of undermines the presentation.

Of course, maybe his hand just went to his pocket out of habit, or due to a sort of nervous tic.
