Rumored NX Production Delays Could Point to VR

Rumored NX Production Delays Could Point to VR

A hot NX rumor is making the rounds today, and it’s a doozy. Before we dive in, let me begin by saying that the rumor originates from DigiTimes , a source that some trust, and some don’t. DigiTimes does have confirmed sources in manufacturing, but its track record is hit or miss. What I’m trying to say is take this report with a grain of salt. It’s being said that mass production of Nintendo’s NX has been postponed from mid-2016 to early 2017.

According to the article, production was delayed because “Nintendo wished to enhance the game console’s video-game/handheld-game-integrated gaming experience and add virtual reality (VR) function into the system…” The article also states that Nintendo has halved its production order from 20 million units to 9.5-10 million units. The reason this rumor seems so suspicious is because the claims are all hugely significant. A six-month (or longer) delay in production, VR integration after Nintendo has stated it wasn’t interested in the idea, a sudden decision to halve shipments because of poor first-year Wii U performance… doesn’t it all sound a bit drastic? I just hope Nintendo hosts a Direct to clear the air soon. I don’t know how much longer I can survive on rumors.
