The PSX era of role-playing games is considered by many to be the best era. A lot of titles that went on to completely alter the landscape for the genre released on this console, and SaGa Frontier is no exception. The game sold very well on release in Japan and ended the year in the top 5 best-selling games of that year. Surprisingly, this game has mostly mixed reviews when it comes to the game’s quality, but I think that’s what makes it a great title. It’s an incredibly unique game that wasn’t trying to be anything but itself, so obviously a lot of people are going to love it. No matter how you feel about the title, its impact on role-playing games as a whole is undeniable.
SaGa Frontier Premise
The thing that made this game so unique for its time was its complete lack of linearity. It has a mechanic called the Free Scenario System, that allows the player to choose between seven different protagonists. You can also go anywhere from the beginning and interact with almost anyone. This doesn’t mean that each character doesn’t have their own unique quests and storylines to get lost in, but it’s a different approach to that RPG trope. In completing a scenario, the others gain bonuses, incentivizing you to finish every one. It’s not for everyone but if it resonates with you, it can potentially become your favorite retro RPG of all time.

SaGa Frontier Cheat Codes
Secrets
Infinite Credits
If you have more than 10,000 credits, fly over to Nelson and buy as many Gold Ingots as you can. Then fly back to Koorong and go into the Credit Exchange. Once there, decide to Sell Gold, and then press and hold down on the D-Pad until you can no longer go down. Then, press and hold up. You’ll notice after this input the price has increased. Press down again until the price drops to 420, and then sell your Gold Ingots. Fly back to Nelson to buy more ingots and then rinse and repeat.
Infinite Junk Shop Items
Pay the lizard, then pick out any three items you want. Go back to the lizard and choose Sell. Then click on the Hyperion Bazooka. It should beep, then you can go back and pick up seven other items.
Play as Rouge
Play Blue’s Quest. When you fight Rouge, lose to him, and then suddenly you’ll be walking around as Rouge.
Game Shark Codes
The codes below require a third-party device like Game Shark to work. PS1 Game Shark and other cheat machines like it work by injecting code into a game to alter its gameplay. This can cause unintended glitches in a game or its saved files. If used improperly, you can wipe your saved file or even completely break your game. BE SURE TO USE THE FOLLOWING CODES WITH CAUTION. If you are emulating SaGa Frontier then these codes should work still as long as your emulator supports Game Shark Codes.
