Sega Confirms Shenmue Trademarks Are a Hoax

Sega Confirms Shenmue Trademarks Are a Hoax

A while back, reports came in saying that trademarks for Shenmue III had been filed. This had several Shenmue fans excited, especially after Yu Suziki spoke about Kickstarting Shenmue III and Corey Marshall, the lead voice actor of the series, found a place back at Sega for some voice work. The trademark was filed in European territories and covered computer game programs, comptuer game software, and video game discs and cartridges. Of course this would lead gamers to believe that a Shenmue III was in the works.

But sadly that is not the case. The trademark was just a hoax. In fact, it’s not the first hoax we have seen of this kind , in the exact same territory. Perhaps it is just a bit easier to get a trademark filed in Europe.

Trademark filings are one of the gaming industry’s most valuable sources when it comes to leaks, but they are looking to be slightly more unreliable now. So take every trademark you see with a grain of salt, or else you will be dissapointed many times over. As for Shenmue fans, just keep hoping that Suzuki ends up starting that Kickstarter project. You know you’ll hit a million dollars in no-time.
