SEGA Reveals New Console Virtua Fighter 5

SEGA Reveals New Console Virtua Fighter 5

None

Virtua Fighter 5 was released on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 back in 2007, when both consoles were still coming into their own. Perhaps for that reason, perhaps for others, Virtua Fighter 5 on the PlayStation 3 never actually had online play, and the Xbox 360 version’s multiplayer capabilities earned it the subtitle “Online.”

Ah, yes, the past. So quaint. Especially since, now, Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown has been announced as an XBLA and PSN title, downloadable for both major high-definition consoles. The download, due out next year in North America, will include the balance tweaks and updates from the latest arcade edition of Virtua Fighter 5, including its extra characters.

That’s right: Taka-Arashi, the sumo wrestler of Virtua Fighter 3 fame, and newcomer Jean Kujo will be playable on consoles for the first time. No longer will the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 offer different iterations of the game. Fighting game fans, rejoice for what is perhaps the most technical 3D fighter ever produced.
