The Top Video Game Releases Coming in April 2024

Last year was one of the most exciting years in gaming history with major hits like Baldur’s Gate 3, Alan Wake II, Diablo IV, and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. And this year will likely exceed this level of greatness. With The Last of Us Part II Remastered already out and titles like Princess Peach: Showtime! and Star Wars Outlaws to come, 2024 is ramping up already. Here are the top video game releases coming in April 2024.

Grounded (Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5) — April 16

First up is Grounded, a survival action-adventure game developed by Obsidian Entertainment. Obsidian Entertainment is the studio that brought us Fallout: New Vegas and South Park: The Stick of Truth. While this game was first released on Xbox One and Windows in 2022, it is finally coming to other consoles. Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5 versions will be released on April 16, 2024.

The player is one of four teenagers missing in a string of disappearances. The teens find themselves trapped in a backyard and shrunken down to the size of an ant. They must explore, survive, and recover lost memories if are to have any chance of stopping the kidnapper and returning home. Follow ladybugs to food resources, hunt aphids for food, and outrun spiders who are hunting you down. And for players with arachnophobia, there is an accessibility option to decide how detailed they look and sound. 

Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes (PC, PS4, PS5,Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S) — April 23

Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes is an upcoming high-quality JRPG developed by Rabbit and Bear Studios. The studio raised over $4,000,000 in crowdfunding, almost ten times their goal. On April 23, 2024, it will be available for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. 

The game uses a traditional turn-based combat system. Your team can consist of up to six unique heroes but you can fly solo if you prefer. The heroes also have a special AI where they learn abilities they can perform on their own in battle so you can kick your feet up and let them do the hard work. There is a vast world to explore with lush and diverse biomes, welcoming towns, and creepy caves. The game has stunning graphics with pixel perfect sprites on top of 3D environments. Every gamer with nostalgia for the golden age of JRPGs should keep an eye out for Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes.

Tales of Kenzera: Zau (PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S,Nintendo Switch) — April 23

Tales of Kenzera: Zau is an upcoming single-player 2.5D Metroidvania game. This will be Surgent Studios’ debut project. The studio is founded by none other than Abubakar Salim, the voice actor for Bayek in Assassin’s Creed Origins. Salim used Bantu culture and his own experience with South African tribal groups from other projects as his inspiration for this game. Players can wield cosmic powers, manipulate time, and discover a universe full of mystical beings and rich lore. It is set to be released on April 23, 2024 for Windows, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Series S, and the Nintendo Switch.

The game follows two separate characters connected by one of the strongest emotions, grief. Part of the story follows Zuberi in 2089, a young boy grieving the loss of his father as he tries to reach understanding and comfort. Zuberi receives a book about a young shaman, Zau, from the distant past who made a deal with the God of Death to bring his own father back. These boys are experiencing the same grief and the same journey to acceptance but are separated by time.

Another Crab’s Treasure (PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch) – April 25

Have you ever wished the soulsborne games were not only cuter and brighter but also… underwater? Well, look no further than Another Crab’s Treasure. This self-described “Shellslike”, or Soulslike, game is set to release on April 25, 2024 for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Series S, and the Nintendo Switch.

Set in a crumbling underwater world, Kril the hermit crab must embark on an epic treasure hunt to buy back his repossessed shell and discover the dark secrets surrounding the polluted ocean. Arm yourself with scavenged chopsticks, forks, knives, and over 50 different potential temporary shells like cups, cans, or the corpses of your oceanic enemies. The game even boasts a Soulslike difficulty.

Manor Lords (PC) — April 26

Manor Lords is a historical strategy game inspired by the architecture and are of late 14th century Franconia, Germany. This upcoming game is set to release on April 26, 2024 for PC.

This game has everything you need to experience the life of a medieval lord without the common medieval tropes. The main mechanics of gameplay consists of organic city building, resource management, and large scale medieval warfare. Immerse yourself in this historically realistic world handcrafted by a solo developer.

Sand Land (PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S) — April 26

Have you ever thought Mad Max needed demons and a Dragon Ball-style protagonist? I hope the answer is yes because we have the perfect game for you. Sand Land is an upcoming adaptation of the post-apocalyptic, desert-themed manga by the same name from 2000. The manga is by Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama. It is set to release on April 26, 2024, for PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Xbox Series X and Series S.  

In a world where both humans and demons are experiencing an extreme water shortage, meet the Fiend Prince Beelzebub, his chaperone Thief, and the fearless Sheriff Rao as they explore this vast, dry open world. Customize combat vehicles like tanks, mechs, and hovercraft, upgrade your demonic skill tree, build your base camp, and explore dungeons like abandoned battleships. This motley crew of demons and humans set out on an adventure to find the Legendary Spring that is rumored to be capable of ending this drought worldwide.

Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- Sweep the Board! (Switch) – April 26

I think what you need next is if Mario Party was based on a demon-filled anime. Coming this year is Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- Sweep the Board!, a party board game. The game can have up to four players compete. This game is set to release on the Nintendo Switch on April 26, 2024.

Experience the beautiful and chaotic world of Demon Slayer with game boards based on the Mugen Train, Tsuzumi Mansion, Mount Fujikasane, Mount Natagumo, and more! Each board has a daytime and nighttime period. During the day you will play minigames and events to advance and prepare for night. During the nighttime, you will search and defeat demons to decide who is the ultimate Demon-Slayer swordsman. Instead of Princess Peach or Waluigi, players can choose between Giyu Tomioka, Gyomei Himejima, Inosuke Hashibira, Kyojuro Rengoku, Mitsuri Kanroji, Muichiro Tokito, Obanai Iguro, Sanemi Shinazugawa, Shinobu Kocho, Tanjiro Kamado, Tengen Uzui, and Zenitsu Agatsuma. Nezuko is not a playable character but she will appear at night to help you throughout the game.

Sea of Thieves (PS5) – April 30

Wrapping up the April game releases is Sea of Thieves. PlayStation 5 gamers are finally getting smash-hit swashbuckler adventure. Sea of Thieves is an open-world multiplayer where players form alliances or go head-to-head in competition. The game is set to release on the PlayStation 5 on April 30, 2024.

This first-person action adventure allows players to pick their character, encounter other online players, and sail the high seas. Depending on how many people you are playing with determines the type of ship you start with. The sloop can only solo players or duos, the brigantine can hold up to three people, and the galleon can hold a four-person party. Your journey is as epic as you want it to be. Players can go on short adventures in the Safer Seas or epic expeditions through unspoiled islands and underwater kingdoms. The riskier the encounter, the sweeter the reward. But make sure to watch out for the Kraken.
