Sid Meier’s Civilization VI Cheats & Cheat Codes for PC

Sid Meier’s Civilization VI is a game that blends strategy, exploration, and nation-building. Developed by the legendary Firaxis Games, this turn-based strategy game has become one of the most popular games in its genre. After all, the franchise is considered the epitome of turn-based, or 4X strategy, and should always make the list of the most influential strategy games of all time.

Sid Meier’s Civilization VI Premise

Initially, in Sid Meier’s Civilization VI, players start with a small town. The goal is to grow this town into a powerful civilization. That is, players can explore the world, start new cities, build them up, use their military, and research new things. They can win in different ways, like by being the strongest military power, having the most advanced in technology, or the most influential culture.

This game has some civilizations that weren’t in the older games. Also, some of the civilizations that were in the older games now have new leaders. In addition, there are new things to build outside of the city center. For example, players need to build a campus district to make science buildings.

One of the new features in the game is a technology tree that changes based on the nearby land. There’s also a similar technology tree for cultural improvements. The government civics structure is improved, especially for players who want to win with their culture. Among the new additions, the computer-controlled opponents have an improved AI with secret goals.

Enabling Cheats in Sid Meier’s Civilization VI

Sid Meier’s Civilization VI includes cheats that can enhance player capabilities beyond those typically provided in the game. These cheats are not enabled by default, so players cannot simply enter cheat codes in the game. However, a relatively easy method exists to enable them. Follow these steps and you’ll be accessing the cheats in no time.

  1. First, close Sid Meier’s Civilization VI if you have it running.
  2. Open the File Explorer on your PC.
  3. Head to This PC > Documents > MyGames > Sid Meier’s Civilization VI
  4. In the folder, there is a file called AppOptions.txt. Open it with Notepad.
  5. In the file, search for a line containing “EnableDebugMenu.” This can be done from the Edit menu and selecting Find, or with shortcut Ctrl + F.
  6. Once you find the “EnableDebugMenu,” change the value from 0 to 1. This enables the debugging system, which in turn enables cheats in the game.
  7. Now save the file and close it. You can do this from the File menu by selecting Save (or Ctrl + S) and then Exit.

After this is done, you are ready to use the cheats in Sid Meier’s Civilization VI. Go ahead and launch the game and continue or start your preferred game. Then, you can open up the debug console using the tilde key (~), often found above the Tab button.

Now that you’ve accessed the debug console, you are ready to enter the cheats. Additionally, you can use this console in ways that are not cheats, such as changing visual settings and modifying the game. There is a gear icon (with a text dialog “Show Panel”) that shows several debug options. These options are not necessarily cheats but can offer some important insight to players. Here is the complete list of options to enable.

  • Show Frame Statistics: This shows a lot of information about frame rates, graphics cards, settings, and more.
  • Show Frame Graph: Draws a graph on frame creation in milliseconds.
  • Show VFX Statistics: Technical details on visual effects.
  • Show Time of Day: Players can change the time of day visualized in the game.
  • Show Camera: Shows the camera state with location, zoom level, tilt, and height.
  • Show Lua Statistics: Displays information about Lua memory allocation.
  • Show UI Statistics: Show statistics on draw counts, font cache usage, and items pointed with the cursor.
  • Show Memory: Shows memory allocation information.
  • Show Game Core Statistics: Statistics on player profiles.
  • Show VRS Demo Panel: Shows VRS settings and frame rate stats.

Now to the actual cheats, which there are only a few of but some of them are extremely powerful.

  • Explore all: This cheat does what the command suggests. It explores the entire map at once, including exploring the natural wonders. No need to worry about civilizations blocking your way, or barbarians attacking while scouting.
  • Reveal all: With this command, you can reveal the entire map for yourself. No more fog of war, no more guessing what the opponent does, you can see it all! Great against both barbarians and other civilizations.
  • Tod set [x]: Set the time of day using x as the 24-hour clock. You can achieve the same from the Show Time of Day option we discussed earlier. Example: “tod set 12” sets the time to noon and “tod set 16” to 4 pm.
