Skyrim Gets Kinect Functionality This Month

Skyrim Gets Kinect Functionality This Month

None

Skyrim’s new Xbox 360 patch allows you to use the Kinect to control your wandering Dragonborn. By simply speaking voice commands you can order your allies around, loot items, quick save and load, and manage your own equipment.

Still, that’s not the part fans should be excited about. What we really want to see is Kinect-enabled voice-controlled dragon shouts, and yes, these too are available. In fact, the Kinect makes them all easier to access because you don’t have to go into a menu; you actually shout the command yourself and it happens. Now you too can travel around the world exposing unfortunate bystanders to the power of “FUS RO DAH!”

However, Kinect control will be limited to voice only. According to Bethesda VP of marketing and PR Pete Hines, motion control would fundamentally change the way was played. Bethesda is attempting to enhance the game with Kinect with additional functionality, not alter the functionality that already exists. All of the traditional controls can still be used like normal, but you can use Kinect in addition to them.

Kinect voice control will be added to Skyrim on the week of April 23rd and will be available in five languages: English, Italian, Spanish, German, and French.
