According to Sony President Shuhei Yoshida the new PS4 Gaikai game streaming service will be able to stream games to much more than just the PS4. Since all the user device has to be is, essentially, a terminal that broadcasts a video feed and sends back a controller feed to a central server, high-quality PlayStation graphics would easily be available on all devices. This includes PCs, TVs, Blu-ray players, smartphones, tablets, and anything else that can access the Internet.
Granted, this is all just a possibility at this point. Yoshida did say that being able to offer Sony’s entire library on all devices is the ultimate goal, but right now, the possibility of offering Gaikai on other devices is “still being studied.” In particular, it may be difficult to simulate a dual analog-stick control scheme on something like an iPad, which has really nothing other than a big touch screen.
Sony has announced in the past that the Gaikai game streaming service will not be available until 2014. The service will be the PS4s primary method of backward compatibility, allowing users to play PS3 and even PS2 and PSone games via a streaming service. Currently, the service is only compatible the the PS4, PS Vita, and PS Vita TV.
