Sony’s Consumer Products & Services division, the branch of Sony that handles the PlayStation as well as gaming accessories and TVs, reported a multi-billion yen loss in the second quarter of this fiscal year. I’m not entirely sure you can blame this on gaming though. The PS3 shipped 3.7 million units worldwide, the PSP shipped 1.7 million units, and PS3 software shipped 37.4 million units his quarter. It just turns out that Sony’s LCTV division was a huge money drain. Strangely enough, however, Sony has cited the issue as stemming from the PS3 price drop, currency rates, and general weakness of video game sales. Maybe it’s just me, but the numbers don’t seem to add up.
