Gamers and gaming journalists have settled on calling Sony’s motion controller the Wand, as it makes sense and Sony has given us no other indication of what we should be calling it. Yesterday, at an investor presentation in New York City, EA CEO John Riccitiello might let the codename slip. According to IGN, the EA honcho stated, “In the coming year, both Sony and Microsoft have announced new controllers. Motion sensor controls, Natal and Gem, these are likely to bring new consumers into the marketplace.” So, it looks like we can now start calling the Wand the Gem. However, we’re not too fond of the term Gem. Apparently, Sony’s not very high on it either. As featured in a Kotaku report, “The term ‘Gem’ was ‘an early code name for the product,’ according to Sony Computer Entertainment of America director of communications Patrick Seybold. ‘We haven’t announced a final name at this point.’” After all, maybe we’ll hold off on calling the controller Gem and wait for the official branding to get released.
