Sony Trademarking PlayStation TV

Sony has submitted a new trademark application for PlayStation TV . The company held the trademark for six years but didn’t actually use it, and now that the trademark has lapsed, they are submitting it again. The prior trademark was for a service of some sort, not for that PlayStation-branded TV set and 3D monitor that hit the market a few years ago.

The current generation of consoles often centers on media capabilities before games. The original Xbox One announcement focused almost entirely on the system’s non-gaming options, and the PS4 keynote at E3 also focused on the consoles media capabilities. Sony has also announced that their PlayStation division will be collaborating with Sony Pictures Entertainment to introduce some new media streaming services. However, it is unclear if any of these will be the PlayStation TV that this trademark is referencing
