Splatoon Receives Possible Penultimate Update

Splatoon Receives Possible Penultimate Update

Splatoon has turned out to be one of the best risks that Nintendo has ever taken. The game, paradoxically, feels much newer and much older than it really is; much newer because the constant addition of new maps and weapons means there’s always something new to learn or master, and much older because the Splatoon universe, and all of its wonderful characters and quirks, feel so familiar already. It’s hard to believe the game only came out in May.

We know that Splatoon will keep getting additional content through January, which means that the update that went live today could very well be the next to last update that brings new maps and game changes, assuming we get one more after the new year. Version 2.4.0 should be live by the time you read this, and two new maps – Piranha Pit and Ancho-V Games – should now be in rotation. The update also introduced new restricted areas in a few maps while playing Rainmaker, some matchmaking improvements, and general bug fixes.
