My God, Nintendo, what have you done? I have seen some bitter Splatfest rivalries in my day. Early on when we were all still young and having fun, Cats vs. Dogs sent ripples of discord through the Splatoon community as we took one side or the other with one of the Squid Sisters, but we remained whole. It was all still fun and games for Roller Coasters vs. Water Slides, but by the time Art vs. Science rolled around, things were getting bitter. By the eleventh Splatfest, Pokemon Red vs. Pokemon Blue , very clear divisions had been drawn and it became clear which Squid Sister had claimed our unswerving allegiance. Now, it’s time for the ultimate showdown.
The theme for the final Splatfest, due to kick off July 22, is Callie vs. Marie. In truth, this has been the underlying theme of every Splatfest, but we never thought it would come down to this. Allegiances have been pledged for various reasons: Which Squid Sister is your waifu? What colors do you like more? Which one more closely represents your own personality? Whatever your reason may be for siding with either Callie or Marie – whomever you have chosen – the time has come to fight for her honor.
This is a worldwide Splatfest with each region playing against itself: Japan vs. Japan, Europe vs. Europe, and North America vs. North America. The top 100 Splatfest participants from each region will be announced once the festivities (carnage and firefights) have concluded. Whenever you’re ready, squids and kids, you can choose your side beginning July 4 at 10 PM ET. Marie is best girl. Long live Marie.
