I have to admit, a few months ago I thought Splatoon would be dead. Updates were supposed to cease in January and I assumed that the fan-base would taper off soon thereafter. Me of little faith! Nintendo has thankfully realized what a rare treasure it has in this brand-new, deeply-loved IP and has decided to keep the content flowing! We’re still getting updates that bring with them new balancing tweaks and new weapon sets, and now we have a strange new Splatfest to look forward to.
Splatoon has attracted some pretty odd tie-ins to its monthly Splatfest competitions. So far the title for strangest tie-in has been held by Transformers , which had your kids and squids deciding whether they supported Team Autobot or Team Decepticon. The next Splatfest is a little weirder, as its theme is SpongeBob SquarePants. Actually, now that I think about it, this is probably one of the most fitting mashups conceivable. Can you think of any other wildly popular, family friendly, anthropomorphic underwater beings? At any rate, the next Splatfest will pit Team SpongeBob against Team Patrick. Festivities begin April 23 at 10 a.m. ET. Last one there’s a soggy crabby patty!
