Steam Crash Lands On Mobile Devices

Steam Crash Lands On Mobile Devices

None

Yesterday, Valve announced and released a dedicated Steam app for the iOS and Android platforms. The app came out of left field for those us who don’t quite understand why it needs to exist, but Valve’s fearless president and co-founder, Gabe Newell, explained the company’s thought process:

“Mobile is changing the way people interact, play games, and consume media, and the Steam app is part of our commitment to meet customer demands and expand the service functionality of Steam to make it richer and more accessible for everyone.”

At the moment, “Steam Mobile” allows gamers to purchase games, check out gaming-related news, chat with friends, browse user profiles, and check out Steam sales. There’s no word about whether the app will eventually allow users to download mobile games, but that’s probably pretty unlikely. Apple’s not a huge fan of anyone selling products on their devices without giving them a piece of the pie.

Currently, Steam Mobile is going through a closed beta testing process, but if you would like to sign up, simply download the app and log into your Steam account.
