Stephen Colbert Has His Own Adventure Game

Stephen Colbert Has His Own Adventure Game

Stephen Colbert still has a bit of time before he takes over The Late Show from David Lettermen, so it looks like he is spending his time on a variety of new hobbies, game design being one of them. He made a game called The Late Show with Stephen Colbert: Escape from the Man-Sized Cabinet , a classic style text based adventure game where Colbert himself attempts to escape from the titular cabinet. The game is full of jokes, both generic and keyed to the world of gaming. It also loves to humorously mock the inputs you type into the text parser. It’s a riot, and we certainly hope more mainstream pieces of media will make tangential games like this.

The game runs in a browser and it developed off the open-source game engine Twine. It’s unclear how much of a hand Colbert himself had in making the game, but he has taken credit for it on Twitter. As Colbert has taught us before, truth is a democratic process, so I’m comfortable saying he was the developer all along.

Colbert will take over The Late Show on CBS on September 8.
