Street Fighter V as Noob Friendly “as Humanly Possible”

Street Fighter V as Noob Friendly “as Humanly Possible”

When it comes to jumping into a game series several games in, no genre is more prohibitive than fighting games. Each fighting game series has its own emphases, its own combo systems, various methods for repelling and countering attacks, and, of course, its own unique characters with varied fighting styles. Street Fighter is one of the most popular fighting game series of all time so you can bet that coming into StreetFighter V, if this is your first time commanding the world warriors, you’re going to be facing some seasoned competition. Thankfully, Capcom wants to make sure that you’re not at a total disadvantage.

Producer Yoshinori Ono told GameInformer in an interview, “When we talked about making Street Fighter V , we wanted to make sure we lowered the bar for entry as much as humanly possible.” There’s no getting around learning each character; you’ll need to brush up on your combo chops, and button-mashing won’t get you far online. The focus attacks from SFIV have been done away with, though, and replaced with a new system that should level the playing field. “The new system is the V-System where you’ve got V-Trigger, V-Reversal, V-Skill and that’s something that’s totally new and has never been in a Street Fighter game. So even if someone has been playing Street Fighter for a very long time, they have to take the time to learn how to use it in the game.” For someone like me who loves fighting games but never go into Street Fighter IV, this is awesome news.
