For a brief period last night, users found a trailer for nothing other than Street Fighter V on YouTube, straight from Capcom. The trailer, however, was likely a mistake, as it was taken down only minutes later. The trailer pegged the game as an exclusive for PS4 and PC, which has led some to believe the trailer was supposed to go live at Sony’s PlayStation Experience this weekend. This makes Street Fighter V the second big name fighting game title to be exclusive to the PlayStation 4.
The trailer is mostly inspirational statements meant to appeal to the fighting game community, and as a member of the fighting game community, I have to say it worked. It unapologetically appealed to the hardcore crowd, the crowd that puts in time and effort in an attempt to be the best.
In between inspirational statements, there are small clips of gameplay that you would be forgiven for thinking was Street Fighter IV . The graphics are still 3D models, but this time are far less bulky and cartoony. The first clip shows Ryu powering up in some fashion, posing as ink splotches swirl around him and electricity cracks around his fingers. Two other clips just show Ryu and Chun-Li’s openings, which aren’t that much different from Street Fighter IV ’s. A third clip shows what appears to be Ryu’s Shinkuu Tatsumaki EX or Super Move. Using it causes the ink splotches from before to swirl around his legs. Perhaps that was an effect of his power-up earlier, or perhaps this is just what happens when a super is used. A fourth clip shows Chun-Li performing an air combo. She stomps on the opponent’s head several times before doing a brand new flip style special move in mid-air. Finally, the final clip shows Ryu throwing what I think is a Denjin Hadoken through stylized camera angles.
It is likely that we will see even more screens and info from the PlayStation Experience this weekend, and the upcoming Capcom Cup. We will bring you more information about the trailer then.
