Super Mario 3D All-Stars

Super Mario 64

Infinite lives

Go outside the castle, near the waterfall. Climb the third tree from the waterfall. Do a handstand on top of the tree to get a one-up. Then, enter the castle’s first floor. Now return outside and climb the same tree. Do another handstand for another one-up. Repeat this trick to collect an unlimited amount of lives.

In the “Vanish Cap Under The Moat” level, you can get three 1-up mushrooms on the first hill. You can then jump off the edge of the level and not lose a life. This trick gives you three lives in just a few seconds.

While in the Hazy Maze Cave, reach the Hazy Maze. Kill eight of the moles in a row to get a 1-up. Proceed to the single mole on the other side of the maze, kill him eight times, and get the 1-up. Then, return to the first pair of moles, kill eight in a row and the third 1-up mushroom will appear. Continue going between the moles to get as many extra lives as desired.

Triple Jump move and 100 life bonus

Collect all 120 stars, then go outside the castle. Climb inside the cannon opening that is now located where the grating was near the Fish Pond. Aim to land Mario onto the roof, where he will meet Yoshi. Then, Yoshi will speak to Mario, award a 100 life bonus and the Triple Jump move, and quickly leave.

Warps

Go to the indicated location in the corresponding level to reach the listed warp.

Bob-omb Battlefield Warp 1: There is a warp in Bob-omb Battlefield that allows you to get quickly from one side of the level to the other. After going up the first slanted bridge, go right and stand in the flower bed. The game will warp you to another flower bed, near the mountain. You can also warp from the flower bed next to the mountain to the flower bed next to the slanted bridge.

Bob-omb Battlefield Warp 2: There is a warp in Bob-omb Battlefield that allows you to quickly go up the mountain. Proceed up the mountain until you reach the first indentation in the mountain that metal balls come out of. Go into the indentation, and stand there. The game will warp you to another indentation higher up in the mountain.

Cool, Cool Mountain Warp: At the beginning of the level, turn around to see a broken bridge. Walk to the end of it to be transported to the bottom of the level, near the large penguin. Stand at the end of the broken bridge you end up at to be warped back to the top. You can use this warp to easily get between the top and bottom of the mountain.

Lethal Lava Land Warp: At the beginning of the level, turn left and jump to the island with the Wing Cap block on it. Stand in the center of the island to warp to a hole in a metal wire platform, right under an eyeball enemy. You can warp back and forth between the hole and the island.

Shifting Sand Land Warp: In Shifting Sand Land, go to the tree that is next to the oasis. Stand under the tree to be warped to a metal platform in the quicksand area. The cannon is there, as well as a black brick block. You can also warp from the metal platform to the tree.

Tall, Tall Mountain Warp: In Tall, Tall Mountain, there is a warp that makes it easy to reach the cannon. In the area with all of the mushrooms, you will see two tiny mushrooms that are next to each other. Jump to the second tiny mushroom to be warped to a hidden area below the mountain. From there, you can proceed to the cannon. You can also warp from the hidden area to the mushroom if you do not use the cannon.

Whomp’s Fortress Warp: There is a warp in Whomp’s Fortress that makes going up the fortress a lot easier. Proceed until you reach the area where a Thwomp is pounding the ground. There are several regular boxes and a red “!” box there as well. Stand in the corner between the wire wall and fortress wall to be warped to a ledge coming out of the fortress, next to a large pole. You can also warp from the ledge to the area where the Thwomp is located.

Alternate Bowser message

Collect all 120 stars, and return to the final fight with Bowser to view a different message.

Huge penguin

Collect all 120 stars, and return to Course 4 (Cool, Cool Mountain). Before entering, select the Big Penguin Race. Then, begin the game and jump into the chimney of the house at the beginning of the level. The penguin will now be even larger than before.

Control ending sequence camera

After completing the game, use the Analog-stick on controller two to control the camera in the scene featuring Mario and the Princess. The camera is also controllable on the Credits screen.

Easy health

If you have taken damage, simply jump in some water that you can be submerged in and rise to the surface to have full health.

Extra coins

Whenever there is a post in a level, if you run around it five times, some coins will appear. These are good if you need more health or to collect 100 coins.

One-up butterflies

Butterflies may appear on courses 2, 12, and 13. Punch the butterflies to turn them into round black bombs that will chase Mario. Then, the bombs will explode or turn into one-up mushrooms.

One-ups in third Bowser battle

Walk behind the top left pillar to collect a 1-Up if you lose a life during the battle.

Stopping the Tick Tock Clock

To stop the gears and platforms in the Tick Tock Clock, simply jump into the clock when the minute hand is on the 12.

Super Mario Galaxy

Play as Luigi

Collect all 120 Stars. Then, go to Rosalina on the Comet Observatory, and request to fight Bowser again. Defeat Bowser to view an alternate ending. Once the credits finish, you will get a message saying Luigi is now playable. Luigi is just like Mario, but he jumps higher, runs faster, and has lower traction.

Grand Finale Galaxy

Collect all 120 Stars with Luigi, and defeat Bowser to unlock the Grand Finale Galaxy for both Mario and Luigi, which is the Star Festival seen in the beginning of the game.

Star 121

Collect 100 Purple Coins in the Grand Finale Galaxy to get the final Star.

Watermelons instead of coconuts

Collect 9,999 Star Bits in the Hub to change all coconuts in the game to watermelons.

View number of lives lost

Collect the final star in the Grand Finale Galaxy with both Mario and Luigi. The information from your saved game file will now include the number of times you lost a life.

Flying Mario

To get flying Mario, you need to get the sixth Grand Star that will open two new domes, “The Garden” and “The Gate”. Enter “The Gate” dome, and talk to the red Luma that gives you a challenge to get all 100 purple coins. He will give you a red star that makes you fly after you spin in midair. After finishing that challenge, the same red stars will appear in the observatory to make Mario fly.

Higher jumps

To jump even higher than a triple jump, first do a triple jump. At the peak of your third jump, spin. This will make you jump higher so you can reach things that are too high to reach with a triple jump.

Homing attack

Spin in mid-air, then immediately press Z to hit the nearest target.

Super ground pound

Note: For a better effect, do the following at a high angle. Jump and spin. As soon as you see the light, ground pound. Mario will do a cannonball, then slam on his legs with his hands in the air. This is more powerful than a normal spin.

Assistant

While playing the game, use a second Wii-mote. Although a second player will not appear, the second Wii-mote will have its own pointer, allowing another player to assist by collecting items and helping Mario’s jumps.

Sleeping Mario

Allow the game to idle for approximately one minute, and Mario will go to sleep.

Rosalina’s bubble

Go to where Polara and Rosalina stand together by the beacon. Stand far enough away from Rosalina so that the talk sign does not appear. Then, try to jump on Rosalina. A bubble will form around her.

Attack Rosalina

Go to the room where Rosalina is standing. Zoom in, aim at her, and press B to fire a Star Bit at her. When it hits her she will jump because it scares her, and it will hurt her.

Jump towards the Beacon without being carried back to the platform

Perform a long jump (press Z then A while running) towards the Beacon (the big yellow ball off the platform where Rosalina is standing). If timed correctly, you will land under the Beacon without being carried away until you slide further away from the Beacon.

Flip the screen

Note: You must have the Engine Room dome unlocked. Go outside of the dome. Move slightly to the left, then jump off the platform, and slide down the curtain. After falling off the curtain, immediately Ground Pound and fall into space. A bubble will carry Mario or Luigi back up to the Engine Room. While he is going up, the screen will flip for about two seconds. Note: This may not work every time.

Defeating Bowser

As you are running up the stairs to fight Bowser for the final time, collect the 6 Life Mushroom and Life Shroom. You will first be on a sphere with spiky plants. Bowser will roll into a brick ball and chase you. When he is nearby, spin. Do this two times. Next, you will be at a rock with little plant things. He will breathe fire. Protect yourself by hiding behind the plant things. He will then curl up into his spiky shell and come at you fast. When he is close, hit the plant thing at him. Do this until you are at where you usually fight Bowser. Make him ground pound the glass and burn his tail. Hit him once, then hit him again when he is on his back. The last time you do this he will spin very fast. Time it, then hit him.

Pokemon reference in Buoy Base Galaxy

Above the tower where you collect the Blue Star Pieces is a little planetoid that is a sphere with two red panels on top and a lighter bottom with a screw in the middle. It looks exactly like a Pokeball.

Easy lives in Comet Observatory

At the Comet Observatory, run around and collect the 1-Up Mushrooms. Then, go into a Dome, come back out, and all the 1-Up Mushrooms will have respawned. Note: More 1-Up Mushrooms can be collected after you unlock the Red Star.

Shortcut in Deep Dark Galaxy

You can use the cannon on the beach for a shortcut. Normally you would need to use the cannon to shoot yourself to the nearby planet to get a Fire Flower then use the Jump Star to return to the beach so that you can light the two torches to open the door on the first Star, or the three torches to make the Ice Flower appear on the second Star. However, if you get in the cannon and turn it all the way to the left as far as it will go, you will see two yellow platforms moving up and down. Watch them carefully. When the farthest platform is up, line your crosshairs up with the side of it. Then, wait until the closest platform goes back up, and fire yourself in that direction. If timed correctly, the platforms will have switched again and you will hit the side of the furthest platform and fall on the ground. You must hit the wall or you will overshoot and die. This will put you inside the “bowel” area without opening the door on the first Star. If you are on the second Star, you will not have to worry about getting the Ice Flower to cross the lake and jump the faucets. You can just proceed right and climb the poles to get to the Bubble Shooter.

Getting Garbage Dump Star in Dreadnought Galaxy

This Star is difficult to get because the bombs do not seem to explode fast enough. First, place a bomb on all of the little yellow circles that you shoot to make a coin. This will provide the best blast coverage, so you will need six bombs. When the level starts, long jump the left-most bomb. Take it, run forward a bit, and throw it at the furthest left side yellow dot. Next, long jump back to the second bomb (from the left), and take that bomb. Turn around, and throw it. The bomb should land just about on the left side middle dot. Get the third bomb, and do the same thing. It should land just about on the right side middle dot. Next, take the fourth bomb, and run forward a bit. Throw it at the furthest right side dot. Long jump back to the first bomb again. It should be just barely shooting out another bomb. Take it, and throw it at the closest left side dot. Finally, get the second bomb (from the left), and toss it at the closest right side dot. When you pick up that last bomb, you should have about fourteen seconds remaining on the clock, and must have at least eleven seconds. It is important to take the second bomb for the closest right side dot because it lights when you pick it up. The bomb will already be active while you run to the dot. It is also important to get the bombs as close to the yellow dots as possible and execute all your moves flawlessly (no unnecessary jumps or spins) as every second counts. This will require some practice. You must experiment with how far Mario can throw the bombs. For the left and right furthest dots, try throwing them when you are even with the closest dots.

Quick start when racing Cosmic Mario in Honeyhive Galaxy

Before the race begins, hold Forward. Press Z to crouch when the timer reaches “2”, then immediately press A when the race begins. If done correctly, Mario will turn yellow briefly and get a quicker start.

Defeating Cosmic Mario in Honeyhive Galaxy

When racing against Cosmic Mario, perform long jumps to reach the goal quicker.

Easy Star Bits in Sling Pod Galaxy

There is a comet where there are a lot of Star Bits. Grab onto the nearest grey tree, and collect all the Star Bits. You will get an extra life because of the number of Star Bits. Once you have collected all of the Star Bits, intentionally fall into the black hole. You will not lose a life because of the previously awarded extra life. After you have jumped into the black hole, you will respawn at the last grey tree you were on. Collect all the Star Bit again, and jump off. Continue doing this to get as many Star Bits as desired. Each time will result in about fifty Star Bits.

Easy lives in Space Junk Galaxy

Select the Tarantox’s Tangled Web Star. Play through the level until you get to the glass-covered planet. If you have not already done so, feed the Hungry Luma fifty Star Bits. Use the Launch Star it creates to go to the Yoshi head planet. Then, without killing them, collect as many Goombas as possible, and get them to follow you. You will need at least eight of them. Jump and keep bouncing on them without hitting the ground. A number should appear that counts up to “7”. On the eighth Goomba, you will start getting extra lives for every Goomba you bounce on. It is possible to get more than ten extra lives per attempt.

Pikmin reference in Space Junk Galaxy

One of the planets is shaped like Captain Olimar’s rocket ship that appeared in Pikmin and Pikmin 2 .

Super Mario Sunshine

Ending bonus

Successfully complete and save the game. You can pay 10 coins to use a boat near the clock tower where Yoshi is found to return to the Airport level at the start of the game. Additionally, you can get a Hawaiian shirt in addition to the sunglasses that the man wearing sunglasses gives Mario normally during the game.

Alternate ending screen

Successfully complete the game with all 120 Shine Sprites and the ending screen will show all the characters in the game. There are 240 Blue Coins and 120 Shine Sprites. You need 50 Shine Sprites and have level 7 completed on all seven stages to get to level 8. You only need 117 Shine Sprites to complete the game to get one ending. Get the last three Shine Sprites to see a different ending. Get the shirt and glasses for a different appearing ending.

Sunglasses

To get the sunglasses, talk to the man wearing glasses on the beach in Dolphic Plaza. The sunglasses tint your screen as if you were actually wearing them. He is also found in many other levels. He will not give them to you if you have less that 30 Shine Sprites.

Get Yoshi

Progress though the game till you get 25 Shine Sprites. Go to Pinnal Park and complete Story #4. You will now be back in town. The Fake Mario will appear with an egg. Chase him down to get Yoshi.

Yoshi juice

After eating a fruit, Yoshi can then spit out juice to defeat enemies.

Higher jumps with Yoshi

Do Mario’s spinning technique when on Yoshi to jump higher. He can also spit juice in this form.

Yoshi’s Spritzer Squirt

Press R, then press A.

Avoid dying

Pause the game when you are about to die and select “Exit Area”. You will be teleported in front of the level you were at and not lose a life. Note: This does not work if you are falling.

Avoid losing health when falling

When falling from high places, press L to do a Ground Pound. This will make you fall very fast and not lose health.

Easy cleaning

Instead of taking a bath each time Mario gets dirty, do one or two spin jumps.

Jump onto buildings

Use a Ground Pound on a manhole cover then immediately jump up. This will send you high into the air. Use a Hover Nozzle to get on the building. Note: Some items, such as Shine Sprites and Blue Coins, can be found on roofs.

Spinning jump

After jumping, you can do a spin by rotating the Analog-stick once in a circle.

Sprinkler Water Spray

To execute the Sprinkler Water Spray easily, do a Spin Jump and hold R.

Faster transportation

To make Mario get around a little faster, use the single spray nozzle and shoot a small amount of water in front of him. Run and press B to do a belly slide. He will slide through the water and keep going at a high speed. This will continue as long as you do not hit anything.

Swim faster

When swimming, switch to your hover and press R. It will give you a little boost while swimming. Not only can you hold R with the Hover Nozzle while pressing A to swim fast; if you hold C-stick Up as well, you can swim very fast. The C-stick trick also works when Mario is wearing his “scuba gear”, which is great for the Red Coin fish stage.

Select files with moves

When you are selecting a file you can do a Spin Move and the Side Jump to get onto the blocks.

Sunglasses and shirt Pianta location

The following is where the Pianta man that gives you the sunglasses is located in each level:

    Delfino Plaza: Fruits Street.
Bianco Hilles: Near the start point.
Ricco Harbor: Near the start point.
    Gelato Beach: Beach house.
Pinna Park: Near the start point.
Sirena Beach and Noki Bay: Not found in this level.
Pianta Village: In the village during the daytime only.

Easy lives

Whenever you complete a level, go to the water directly next to where the boats go in and out. Dive all the way to the bottom and you will see a 1-Up Mushroom. Whenever you return from a level or start from the beginning, it will be there.

Go to the island where the man is stranded and spray the fire. A 1-Up Mushroom will appear.

Go to the second obstacle level (with spinning cubes and platforms) and get the extra life on the star and the one floating by the spinning cube (second). Exit the area and repeat this as many times as desired.

Go to the Sirena Beach level (with the haunted hotel and casino), preferably in the second episode. To the left of where you begin are three boxes. The middle one has an extra life in it. You can get it, exit the level, and repeat this as many times as desired.

When in Delfino Plaza, go to the beach. There is a hidden sewer grate. Spray around until you see the red circle just past the second umbrella. Ground Pound to go into the sewer ad find a 1-Up Mushroom there. Enter a stage, exit, go back, and repeat as needed.

Anybody that gives you a blue coin the first time you wash them off, or get them fruit, will also give you a 1-Up if you wash them off or get them fruit again.

Finding coins

Find a patch of flowers and spray them all quickly. Four or five Coins will appear from the middle of the patch.

If you wash off a person with sludge, they may give you a Blue Coin.

Go on top of trees and you might find some extra Coins.

Spray the wanted of Mario posters in Delfino Plaza to get one Coin each. Some do not always give Coins.

Eat the green birds with Yoshi to get regular Coins. Eating blue birds will give you Blue Coins.

You can get Blue Coins for helping the people in Delfino Plaza get fruit and putting them into a basket.

Spray a symbol (X) with water until it goes away. A blue coin will appear from another symbol (and vice versa).

If you wander around in the manhole (usually in underwater tunnels) you will find yellow and blue coins.

Get coins in the harbor (with bloopers) by going onto the sky walks. There are tons of coins up there.
