SWAT Team Called Over Xbox Argument

SWAT Team Called Over Xbox Argument

None

Everyone knows that the internet is a cesspool of flaming and trolling arguments, yet no one ever expects an online discussion to carry real-world consequences. But this is exactly what happened to an unfortunate 26 year old in Eugene, Oregon the other day.

The man in question, who wished to remain anonymous, refused to share a piece of content from FortressCraft, an Xbox Live indie game, with another user. This user took it very seriously and started making threats. Of course, the man refused to share anyway.

The guy he was refusing to share with made a prank call to the local SWAT team. No really. He said that he just shot his father, and was about to take his own life. He then gave the address of the victim as his own, prompting the SWAT team to take charge and barge into the house of a guy who had simply won an internet argument. The victim then learned that many of his online accounts had been hacked, including his e-mail, and that’s how the prankster figured out his home address. Police have not been able to locate the prankster yet, unfortunately.

Frankly, this makes me really terrified to have another argument on Xbox LIVE. I think I’ll unplug my mic now.
