The Spike Chunsoft RPG project that is going to be unveiled next week in Famitsu is getting a lot of buzz. A new teaser site was opened up for it, counting down to reveals of new “keywords” that describe the game. The first keyword was “side view.” So what is a side-view RPG?
Well a side-view RPG is basically a combination between a 2D RPG and a platformer. The exploration will feel a lot like, say, a Metroid game, but the battles will take place in another screen and using another battle system. Characters can level up, equip new equipment, and do all the other things that characters do in an RPG, but everything is kept to a 2D plane.
Appropriately enough, Masaki Norimoto, current president and founder of tri-Ace, will be aiding Spike Chunsoft in the project. Norimoto previously worked on Valkyrie Profile , as well as titles such as Radiata Stories , Tales of Phantasia , and Resonance of Fate .
